2nd Grade Dogwood with Mrs. Thurman and Miss Jessie

The class has created a painted canvas in the spirit of Easter and spring.  They have had a lot of help from our own Jessie Sousa. The children have made the petals of Dogwood blooms with their thumb prints to commemorate this glorious spring beauty The Dogwood. All the students have participated to make this a lovely art piece for any room, not just something you will put in a closet.  We truly believe this will bring out the high bidders!  So get the checkbooks ready!

The Legend of the Dogwood
In Jesus time, the dogwood grew
To a stately size and a lovely hue.
'Twas strong & firm its branches interwoven
For the cross of Christ its timbers were chosen.
Seeing the distress at this use of their wood
Christ made a promise which still holds good:
"Never again shall the dogwood grow
Large enough to be used so
Slender & twisted, it shall be
With blossoms like the cross for all to see.
As blood stains the petals marked in brown
The blossom's center wears a throny crown.
All who see it will remember me
Crucified on a cross from the dogwood tree.
Cherished and protected this tree shall be
A reminder to all of my agony." - Unknown

Mrs. Tyler and Mrs. Jones' 2nd Grade Cedar Hope Chest
This cedar chest was created by the grandfather of Jeremey, Lauren and Adam Wise, students at Episcopal School of Knoxville, as a donation for the school's fund raising efforts. The prime wood species is African Sapele, with Aromatic Cedar laminated on the inside and used for the base. The cedar provides protection of the contents and a fresh aroma. The main joinery is blind dovetails, designed to last for generations. A molded foot and base molding add an air of sophistication to the piece. The top has been mounted with the latest technology, "Lid-Stay Torsion hinges", which enables the top to stay open at any angle. It is finished on the outside with clear lacquer, which emphasizes the outstanding grain pattern in the wood. The inside is left natural to capture the fragrance of the wood. This is truly a beautifully hand crafted chest which will be a lasting heirloom for its owner.
The second grade studies the United States and the chest is filled with Americana:
Mrs. Tyler's 2nd grade class towel with student handprints, USA license plate print, Life is Good canvas USA flag, 2 kitchen trivets, 2 ESK mugs, cookbook, 2 plastic drink tubs, water and Coke, chips, plates, cups, place mats, salt and pepper shakers, Life is Good frisbee, beach towels, sand castle, and bandanas.
